Learning to love the body we’re in
I remember seeing photos of myself after doing my first empowerment and outdoor boudoir photoshoot. After years of hating on myself, I looked at my photos and thought DAMN I DO LOOK GOOD! That’s me and omg there’s nothing wrong with the cellulite on my legs - I actually love it! (I even thought it looked cute!). I had always tried hiding it but for the first time ever I saw that it actually wasn’t as bad as I had built up in my head over the years!
What I’ve realised after doing Boudoir and also Empowerment photoshoots with more than 100 women over the past couple of years (how is it a couple of years already!?!) is we all have our insecurities - it doesn’t matter how good we look in other people’s eyes, we still have them! It really doesn’t help with the photoshopped celebrities out there, the expectations we’re ‘suppose’ to live up to and so on. However it truely is amazing seeing the boost in confidence women walk away with after their photoshoot and then especially after seeing their photos! It never ever gets old!
What women don’t realise is they only see one side of themselves - usually in the mirror, for a short amount of time each day. We don’t see ourselves move in different ways, interact with people in different ways, even see the way we look at certain people (I’m thinking with our favourite people - friends, lovers, whanau). We don’t see all our different expressions, the different angles (except that selfie angle we have on lock hahaha) - there is so much more to us than that 5 minutes in the mirror.
An empowerment or boudoir photoshoot shows that off. You get to see yourself in a different light. Usually in a way you’ve never seen before. It can be life changing. I have story after story I can and will share with how it has helped others gain confidence and learn to love the body they’re in.
